RESCOM SUPPORT - WIRELESS ACCESS
Wireless Coverage
All of the campus academic buildings have wireless internet coverage. The wireless network can also be accessed outdoors from most places on campus. Certain areas of Carson Park also have wireless coverage. The Residence Hall buildings themselves are not covered internally. The only exception is the area around the administrative offices in Towers North.
Getting Connected
To access UWEC wireless, network authentication is required. To authenticate, you must have a valid UWEC username and password to register your computer on the wireless network. You also must enter ‘UWECwireless' in the SSID field. There are several pages you can read for help getting connected to the wireless network.
Wireless in Your Room?
Since the Residence Halls are not covered by the UWEC wireless network, students are welcome to purchase and set up their own wireless routers for their dorm rooms. You must secure your wireless signal with a password to prevent unauthorized users from connecting. If your wireless signal is left unprotected, other people may connect and use your router for illegal purposes. Since the router will be register to you, it is your responsibility for any activity your router is used for. Please contact us if you have any questions about setting up and securing your wireless router.
