UW-Eau Claire takes copyright issues seriously and a file sharing policy is in place. Both the RIAA and MPAA have stepped up their search for illegally obtained music and movies. These organizations often target students on college campuses. To avoid any possible legal trouble, please use a legal source for online content. EDUCAUSE maintains a comprehensive list of legal sources of online content.

Residence Hall Wireless Internet Project

The residence hall wireless Internet project has been completed. All student rooms in the residence halls, as well as lobbies, lounges, and common areas are now covered for wireless Internet access.

Computer Lab Information

Have you ever wondered which computer labs have computers available? How about whether or not a computer has a software package you are looking to use? You can find all of this information and more at the Learning Spaces Computer Lab website at http://spaces.uwec.edu/.

Emails Requesting Your Personal Information

This is a friendly reminder to never respond to an email that requests your password or PIN. Several UW-Eau Claire students have fallen victim to emails requesting their personal information.

None of the UW-Eau Claire computer systems, or UW-Eau Cliare computer administrators or technicians, will ever ask you for your UW-Eau Claire password or PIN, especially via phone or email. Your password and PIN should only be known by you, and you should change it frequently.

If you receive an email requesting your password, please delete it immediately. More information on passwords.

Need Anti-Virus?

Due to budgetary constraints, UW-Eau Claire no longer offers an anti-virus product for students. However, there are several free anti-virus products we recommend to students, such as Panda Cloud Antivirus, AVG Anti-Virus, and Avast Anti-Virus.

There are also a number of free anti-spyware and anti-malware programs we recommend, such as Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and Spybot Search and Destroy.
